Rethinking Mesopotamia in Oxford

The chance to refurbish the Ancient Near East gallery at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford has offered opportunities to rethink what stories are told and also who tells them. The result has been several projects designed to explore these issues. This talk will describe the work, with a focus on a dual-language temporary exhibition called Owning the Past: From Mesopotamia to Iraq, which has been supported by the BISI.

Dr Paul Collins is Jaleh Hearn Curator for Ancient Near East at the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford. He has worked previously as a curator at the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. He is currently BISI's Chair of Council.
